Since I have started college
my main food has been pizza. From eating it 2:00 in the morning while playingvideo games with friends, or ordering it for dinner because of the lack ofdeliciousness in the CDR food. No matter what the reason is pizza has become my main food. Pizza is one of my favorite foods because it’s easy to get, andsince it is sliced it is a nice way of sharing and bringing people together for food. I also like it because it can combine completely different foods together to create a hodgepodge of flavors that brings one tantalizing feelings to the
taste buds.
Interestingly
enough pizza I am not the only who has the same feelings about pizza. In America
almost “350 slices are eaten per second”(Mary Bellis), in the fast paced lifestyle that we
live in; it is no wonder that pizza has become so popular. However, the
inventors of the pizza did not intend for it to be eaten on the go in the way
that it is. Modern pizza was invented in the early 1500’s by Italian peasants,
after they put tomatoes from Peru with yeast dough. This meal was meant to feed
their families and most often only had cheese, olive oil lad and herbs. However
more people started hearing about this new dish and as it grew in popularity it
changed to cater towards the environment. The pizza industry moved from the very
simple pizza that was started in Italy to various pizzas that catered to the
various taste around the world. Such as in Japan where the most popular toppings
are eel and squid, while in America the most popular topping is peperoni. As
people started to eat less with their families and cooking large meals the
aspect for pizza began to change as well.
Thus pizza’s like the New York style pizza, which is larger and thinner
than most pizzas, was formed which caters to the larger than life atmosphere in
New York. Pizza over the years has evolved over time to suite its various
consumers. However, its Italian roots can still be found not only in its name
but in its unchanging way of bringing people together to eat.
