Norah's House a Hidden Treasure
I enjoy traveling to find new things, however, when it comes to
food finding "new" restaurants that's an absolute favorite of mine. Traveling to
Yellow Springs to find this hidden treasure gave the whole experience an Indiana
Joneses feel.
Walking around Yellow Springs will make anyone
feel as though they have been they have been transported back to the 1970's.
There are people walking around barefoot, playing music on the sidewalks and an
aura of love mixed with a hint of crazy. It's this smidgen of crazy that makes
Yellow Springs so special. Although being in Yellow Springs is a flashback the
whole town is very homey. Norah's
House epitomizes this feeling from the very building, which is literally Norah's
house, to the friendly greeting by Norah and the marvelous home cooked food.
I've been to Norah's House twice and each time I have been lost trying to get
there. The first time I was lost it was because no one in my group knew the
houses location; while the second time I took my family with me and we came from
a completely different direction. It was easy to miss Norah’s house because the
house has no visible indicators of being a restaurant, besides the constant
flow of people coming in and out of the house, that a normal restaurant. This
is Norah's way to eliminate the feeling of a restaurant and make the environment
more of a "welcome home" experience.
This at home experience is not only evident in the restaurant’s
appearance but also in the set up but also in the way the food is served and
paid for. Once inside the house there are tables set up in the dining room, in
the kitchen, and there is also a place to eat in the living room. The way the
tables are set up allows everybody to talk to each other no matter where seated.
The placement of the tables and couches promotes a feeling of family and
belonging. The food, which is set up in a family dining style, brings back
feelings of being at my Grandma’s house for the holidays. Once done enjoying the
fresh home cooked food, the meal is paid by putting a tip in a cookie jar.
Norah’s house is the perfect place for
someone who is looking to have some good family cooking for a great price.
Everybody should have the great experience of trying one of Norah’s fresh
blueberry muffins or some of her Mexican Lasagna. If home is where the heart is
then Norah is at home in her kitchen, bringing joy and full stomach to all who
enter.
